From vegetable grower to radish specialist

What began as a vegetable farm has, over the years, grown into a specialized radish company. Passion, knowledge, and experience have been passed down through generations and still form the foundation of our work today.

Below, you can explore the history of our company.

1963

Establishment of the vegetable farm ‘Coolbergen’

The company was founded by Jan and Gerda Coolbergen. From that year onward, various vegetables were grown in greenhouses, such as tomatoes, green beans, and lettuce. Later, radishes were also cultivated. At the start, the greenhouse size was 3,000 square meters (0.3 hectares).

1988-2019

1988: Son Willem-Jan joins the company, and cultivation shifts to year-round radish production.
1993: Son Ad joins the company.
1999: The company has expanded to 3.5 hectares of greenhouses.
2000: Establishment of Ortolanda, a company for radish cultivation in Italy.
2019: The facility in Oude-Tonge has expanded to 14 hectares of greenhouses (spread over the years).

2025

Coolbergen continues independently

After many years as part of the Ortolanda group, Coolbergen continues independently in Oude-Tonge.
