Tens of millions of radishes per year...

At the bottom of the Magdalenadijk, just outside Oude-Tonge, you'll find the horticultural nursery of the Coolbergen partnership. As soon as you enter the property, you'll quickly spot a sign that reads: "Be wise, eat radish", which instantly suggests they might have something to do with radishes. And indeed, 33,000 square meters of greenhouses, where radishes are grown year-round, make up this family-run horticultural business in Oude-Tonge. Delivering radishes of the highest quality is the number one priority for Jan and Gerda Coolbergen, together with their two sons, Ad and Willem-Jan, and daughter-in-law Marjan. In a fully automated and pleasantly controlled climate, tens of millions of radishes grow throughout the year, making their way across much of Europe via the 'Greenery' auction in Barendrecht. This past Wednesday afternoon, the PR Committee for Agriculture of Goeree-Overflakkee paid a "working visit" to nursery 'Aster'.
